MACKNEY, October 15, 2023 — The annual Mackney Harvest Festival took place this past Saturday, bringing together residents of all ages for a day filled with local produce, crafts, and entertainment. Held at the town square, the event featured over 30 local vendors, live music, and activities for children, making it a highlight of the autumn season.
Annette Forster, a 66-year-old grandmother and longtime resident of Mackney, was among the attendees. "I love coming here each year. It’s a lovely way to meet up with friends and support our local businesses," she said, enjoying a warm apple cider while watching her grandchildren play in the kids’ zone. Her relaxed demeanor and go-with-the-flow attitude seemed to resonate with many attendees, who appreciated the communal atmosphere.
The festival was not only a celebration of the season but also a crucial fundraiser for local charities, with proceeds from vendor fees going towards community projects. Organizers reported a record turnout this year, with an estimated 1,500 people participating in the festivities.
Local musician Tom Baker performed a mix of folk and country music, adding to the festive ambiance. He remarked, "It’s great to see so many people out here enjoying the day. Events like this really bring the community together."
The Harvest Festival featured a pumpkin carving contest, a scarecrow-making workshop, and various food stalls offering seasonal treats like pumpkin spice donuts and homemade apple pies. The energy was infectious, with families taking part in the activities and sharing laughter as they enjoyed the beautiful autumn weather.
Mackney's Mayor, Sarah Greene, attended the festival and expressed her gratitude to the volunteers and vendors. "This event showcases the best of Mackney — our spirit, our creativity, and our commitment to supporting each other," she said.
As the day drew to a close, attendees left with bags full of fresh produce and handmade goods, already looking forward to next year’s celebration. Annette summed it up perfectly when she said, "Every year, it just gets better. I can’t wait for the next one!"
